Please remove the batteries from both units.
In the battery compartment in the back of the Sender please ensure that the switch is set to position 2. Insert the batteries into the Sender, replace the battery cover and press the RESET button on the back of unit.
Note:- A small flat/crosshead screwdriver is required for the screws that secure the battery cover and a small implement such as the end of a paper clip is required to press the RESET button.
Insert the batteries into the Monitor. A tone should be heard and all the segments should appear on the screen, followed by “----“ which should flash showing that the Monitor is searching for the Sender.
Press and hold the green CHECK button on the front of the Sender until the red light starts to flash
Press and hold the SET & RESET buttons of the Monitor simultaneously (this can be quite tricky), release the RESET button and a tone should be heard. This should be followed by a second tone at which point the SET button can be released. The Monitor will show “----“ again for no more than about 20 seconds and should then show “0” when the Sender has been found and pairing is complete.
Ensure the Sensor is clipped around the live cable between your meter and fusebox and plug the cable it into the bottom of the Sender. You should now have a reading on the Monitor.

All the segments should appear on the Display followed by a third tone at which point the SET button can be released. IMPORTANT – Take care to hold the Set button until the third tone is heard. The sequence will not complete successfully without this. The Display will show “----“, which should flash meaning that the display is searching for the Transmitter.
NOTE – pressing SET and RESET together can by quite tricky and it may take a few attempts to work out which hand to use for which button.
7. After a maximum of 2 minutes, and normally much more quickly, “0” should now be in the middle of the display, in which case the Transmitter and Display are successfully paired together. If “----“ is still showing on the Display screen and if the SET / RESET sequence has taken you more than about 20 seconds, try pressing the Transmitter CHECK button again, or repeat the whole procedure.
8. When pairing is complete, replace the battery compartment covers to the Transmitter and Display.
9. Reset your voltage, tariff and other settings in accordance with the User Manual.
10. Ensure the Sensor is correctly clipped to the live cable from your meter. Plug the Sensor into the Transmitter and the Display should show a reading within 10 – 20 seconds.

The unit of electricity for which you are charged is the kWHr, this means that the price per hour, the price per unit or the price per kW are all the same for the purposes of setting up your OWL tariff.
|
 |
When setting up an OWL the mode key can be used to move between menus/sub-menus and the set key used to enter into a menu/sub-menu or to confirm a change. You can get out from menus/sub-menus use the mode key until you get to an END heading and press the SET key to take you up a menu or out of setup. Please note that stepping through the menu system using the SET key will eventually take you to CNTY where you would select UK, and then this would reset the unit to the factory settings.

Please note:- The OWL Monitor does not have tiered tariff functionality input/operation where the first number of kWh are at one value and everything else used is another. For a tiered tariff we recommend that you enter an average tariff value in Tariff 1, calculated from your typical billed kWh usage (monthly/quarterly) and assuming the following example then Total cost of kWh would be 210kWh @ 20.90p & 690kWh at 10.00p equalling £125.43. The average tariff value would be £125.43 divided by 900kWh giving 13.94p.
The Tariff Alarm enables the user to set a cost value that if exceeded when a multitude of appliances (ie Washing Machine, Dishwasher, Tumble Dryer, Cooker, Electric Shower)are all in use and warns the user that their current spend is high. This is more beneficial to those people on Peak/Off-Peak Tariffs so that they minimise spend during peak tariffs.

Tariff types change regularly, and the OWL CM119 cannot directly accommodate a block or standing charge tariff. Utility companies cannot directly tell you which units you will use will be charged at the particular tariff. When a tariff is set for say the first 100 units at a higher price, generally they simply charge you for 100 units from your bill for the month and the rest is charged at the alternate price. If a tariff is set so that you pay so an additional standing fee every day, or every month, then that standing fee is simply added to the cost over each day or the month.
To gain a better understanding of what your electricity is costing you at any given time, it is better to spread those standing charges out across all the usage so you can see what your appliances are costing including the block or standing charges.
To do this you need to understand what the total cost is per unit. This is best done from a previous bill, or even better over several bills.
Find the total you have been charged by your Utility company for a given period
Find out how many units you have used in that period
Calculate your tariff by dividing the total cost by the number of units.
This will give you a single tariff figure somewhat higher than the lower tariff figure stated by the Utility company, and between the two figures in the case of a block tariff.
Enter this as a single tariff by following the instructions for a single tariff setting on the CM119.

Battery compartments are in the rear of both the Monitor and the Sender.
4 screws need to be removed to access the transmitter Battery compartment, a small crosshead screwdriver is ideal for this.
Please ensure that batteries are fitted in the correct polarity, as failure to do so will mean the unit will not work and may cause internal damage to the circuitry.
Changing batteries in the CM119 will require the Sender and Monitor to be paired once more.
The most effective way to do this is to follow the pairing instructions below.

The PEAK Feature is simply an ICON which can be placed on the screen at the PEAK cost periods in your Tariff setting.
If you have Economy 7 with a higher rate for day time use than night time use, then when setting the tariff which covers the day time usage you can set the PEAK menu to YES, which will then display the PEAK Icon during the day time tariff hours.
The Alarm function allows you to set a usage figure based on cost at which an alarm will be given.
When your electricity usage indicates a cost figure above the Alarm figure you have input, the unit will emit a tone 3 times, and then flash the large figures on the screen until the MODE key is pressed.
|
 |
Main Screen
Press MODE KEY to switch between COST-ENERGY-GHG mode
Cost screen will display the current electricity usage based on your electricity usage and the current active input tariff. The display figures indicate the cost of running your household if there were no changes for the next hour.
Energy Displayed in KW is the power usage sensed by the current clamp multiplied by the input voltage.
GHG screen gives an indication of the CO2 Emmissions equivalent to the amount of Power being used based on the input conversion figure.
Lower Screen
This screen can be changed using the ADJUST KEY
Each single press will move the display between the following MODES
TOTAL – THIS DAY – LAST DAY – THIS WEEK – LAST WEEK – THIS MONTH – LAST MONTH – THIS QTR – LAST QTR – THIS YEAR – LAST YEAR
Total Is the accumulated total electricity usage since the last reset (press MODE and SET to restart the count). The figures displayed will reflect the Main screen mode either Cost, Energy or GHG.
The History Modes also reflect the Mode of the Main Screen in terms of units, and reflect the accumulated usage witnessed during the periods selected. Note this is not reset by using the MODE and SET keys together, these figures reset only on a full reset.
Lower Left Screen
Displays current time, Date and Ambient temperature.

The OWL CM119 can be used to monitor a 3 Phase L-N systems
The transmitter can accept up to 3 different current sensing clamps.
The signals from those current sensors will be added together inside the transmitter and the monitor will reflect the total sensed usage.
To monitor All 3 Phases separately will require 3 Separate units.
The Voltage setting required for the CM119 when being used with 3 Phases will depend on the installation being monitored.
If the Power is being used L-N as 3 Separate Power supplies then each will be 230V
If the Power is being used in Delta format connection 3 Phase then set to 230V
If the Power is being used in Star Formation 3 Phases then the Voltage needs to be 400V and the CM119 model cannot be set to this, please consider the CM160 OWL + USB model.
